Summary:
Skin: explains that the skin is more than a bag surrounding our bodies; the skin actively helps to keep us alive. It produces pigments that protect against the sun's ultraviolet rays. It also keeps our temperature constant.
The food machine: The food we eat turns into us. Take a trip through the alimentary canal. Digestion begins in the mouth and then the stomach takes over, with a chemical attack that breaks down more of the foodstuffs. Once the food passes to the small intestine, bile attacks the fats and other ingredients that have survived so far. Microscopic cilia start to absorb the nutrients, and they are carried to the body's chemical factory, the liver, to be processed into the substances we need.
Taste & smell: shows the receptors in the nose and tongue. Talks about the basics behind wine-tasting ; hay fever and allergies.
