Summary:
"Hawaii's Language Arts Multi-Cultural Program (LAMP) was developed to increase the language arts proficiency in minority students, making them aware of other ethnic groups, as well as instilling pride in their own culture which will foster their own ethnic self-indentity. It serves third and fourth graders on the Island of Hawaii... Our students live in a unique geographical position, with many isolated from each other by land or sea. This creates a need for more exposure to many creative and talented people... This publication grew from a desire to provide insight into the lives of some of our Hawaii residents. To achieve this end, we gathered responses from a survey questionnaire which was sent to a representative sampling of various island residents. From these responses, a series of biographies was compiled and written by our LAMP students."--Introduction.
