Summary:
For viewers seeking a cultural immersion into the latter days of World War II, D-Day Remembered features many film artifacts from the period. The highlight is the Academy Award winning documentary The True Glory, directed by playwright and screenwriter Garson Kanin and renowned British filmmaker Carol Reed. The True Glory features newsreel and battlefield footage shot by the soldiers on the front line itself. Also included is the first episode of Frank Capra's famous Why We Fight films, "Prelude to War," which established the rationale for the US intervention in Europe. D-Day Remembered emulates the moviegoing experience of the time by featuring vintage Warner Bros. cartoons and newsreels as well as rare USO performances by celebrities like Bob Hope, The Andrew Sisters, Martha Raye, Carol Landis and others.
