Summary:
"First there was one Zhou brother, and then there were two. They lived in a bookstore with Po Po, their grandmother, whose stories of paintings that flew through the air and landed on mountain cliffs inspired them to create their own art. She told her grandsons, "To become an artist, you must possess the highest spirit"--a message the boys took with them through the years of China's Cultural Revolution. Even though the bookstore's books were burned and their art was restricted to calligraphy and images of Mao, the boys kept dreaming of painting that could fly free. When their grandmother died, the two brothers returned to the ruins of the bookstore and began to sketch on the walls, asking, "What if we make a painting together?" This was the start of a collaborative process that flourishes to this day. Amy Alznauer tells the story of these two world-renowned artists, and the Zhou Brothers bring to life with paintings that fly from the pages."-- Front cover jacket.
