During the WWII, Inouye joined the 442nd Regimental Combat Team to prove his loyalty to the United States along with many other second-generation Japanese-Americans. He lost his right arm in combat. The untold story of Ralph Carter: Tells the story of World War II, Colorado governor Ralph L. Carr (1939-1943) and his fight to insure that Japanese Americans were treated as the American citizens they were. He fought to keep their Constitutional rights in tact. He welcomed Japanese Americans into Colorado at a time when discrimination and racial hatred against the Japanese was at its height. He fought to keep Japanese Americans out of the internment camps set up by the United States government. A camp was built in Southeast Colorado called Granada Relocation Center or better known as Camp Amache. Carr risked and lost his political career because he stood up for his principles that every citizen has the same rights under the U.S. Constitution.
