Summary:
"This ... program presents the complete history of the superliner 'SS United States'--the fastest ocean liner ever built--as depicted in a series of three classic black-and-white 16 mm sound films. Opening with 'Building New Superliner United States,' you'll see rare coverage of the construction of the huge liner at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company in Newport News, Virginia, from the laying of her keel in 1950 to her festive launch in 1952. Then, come aboard the 53,000-ton, 990-foot flagship of the United States Lines in The 'Superliner United States At Your Service!' for a complete tour of this magnificent vessel. Concluding the program is 'The Little Giants,' a behind-the-scenes look at how a fleet of Moran tugboats dock the 'United States' in New York Harbor. Two rare television commercials featuring the 'United States' and short films on the famous Canadian schooner 'Bluenose II' and a prototype design for an 'unsinkable boat,' are also included."--Container.
