Summary:
"This volume constitutes a concise representation of Jonathan Y. Okamura's thinking about race and ethnicity in Hawaiʻi, his primary research and advocacy concern, between 1980-2020. From his many journal articles and book chapters, these eleven publications were selected because of their focus on racial and ethnic problems and issues in Hawaiʻi, including local identity, ethnic identity, educational inequality, multiculturalism, race and capital punishment, and especially racial and ethnic inequality. Some of the articles are included because they are Okamura's most cited publications, others because they are not readily accessible, and several because they were recently published, the last in 2020. Brought together under one cover with an introductionary essay, the texts in this collection contribute significantly to an understanding and analysis of the nature and extant of historical and contemporary inequality in Hawaiʻi based on race and ethnicity."--P. 4] of cover.
