    Summary:
"Even though O'ahu is densely populated, there are excellent opportunities to see birds all across the island-from urban areas to beaches to hiking trails to wildlife refuges. O'ahu is an ideal place for birding with 212 species on the official bird list including waterfowl; game birds; seabirds; herons, egrets, and ibis; shorebirds; skuas and jaegers; gulls and terns; birds of prey; songbirds; and endemic forest birds. O'ahu has more breeding seabirds on the island than any other in the Southeastern Hawaiian Islands. It is the best island to see the rare Bristle-thighed Curlew and the only island with breeding White Terns which are extremely rare on the outer islands. You can see Christmas Shearwaters and Masked Boobies on Mokumanu Islet off Kāne'ohe; Gray-baked Terns at Makapu'u Beach Park; Sooty Terns on Manana Island; Bulwer's Petrels on small islands close to Kailua Beach; Mariana Swiftlets on the 'Aiea Ridge Trail and 'Aiea Loop Trail; and the rarest 'Elepaio species. New breeding colonies of Bonin Petrels, Tristram's Storm-Petrels, and Black-footed Albatross have been established at the James Campbell National Wildlife Refuge. O'ahu gives birders the opportunity to observe many introduced species from all around the world without having to travel to far-off countries. Birdwatcher's Guide to O'ahu provides you with the necessary information to plan a visit to twenty-five of the best locations on O'ahu to see our fascinating avifauna. The book is divided into seven geographic regions-Honolulu, Southeast, East, North Shore, Central, Ko'olau Range, and Pelagics. Most of the locations are accessible by vehicle and are mainly located on or near the coast. Several require trail walking in the mountain forests or chartering a boat. Birding hotspots in the island's coastal, rainforest, urban and offshore environments are also included. Whether you're a backyard birder or a seasoned birder ready to hit the hiking trails with binoculars in hand, Birdwatcher's Guide to O'ahu is a must have with maps, charts, and information on all the birds found on the island"--
