    On December 16, 1944, German soldiers launched a surprise attack on the Western Front. The bulge they created deep into Belgium and Luxembourg soon gave the battle its iconic name. And by the time it ended on January 25, 1945, the Battle of the Bulge had become one of the bloodiest of World War II.
