This documentary portrays the cultural, historical and environmental significance of the atoll to Manu'a, the eastern-most Samoan Islands. Highlighted in this project is the value of indigenous participation in government initiatives focused on the ecological importance of the atoll. Rose Atoll (Muliava) is a key nesting stie of sea turtles and South Pacific seabirds, which led to the atoll's designation as a U.S. National Marine Monument. The project and video underscores Samoan philosophies surrounding traditional marine use, oral accounts and knowledge of Rose Atoll, linking the Monument to American Samoa, and illuminating the atoll's ecological importance.
