Summary:
Between 1937-1966, hundreds of dancers, singers, and musicians from the Hawaiian islands became part of the incredible legacy of the Hawaiian Room, located at The Hotel Lexington, in the heart of Manhattan. Over the course of its 30 years, the Room became an incomparable venue through which the Hawaiian culture was shared with millions. Listen to the reminiscences of entertainers, dancers, and patrons who made it such a special place, hear about the bond formed between the entertainers transported to New York City, so far away from their beloved Hawaii, and learn of their increased cultural identity as they brought the hula and Hawaiian music to a whole new audience.--adapted from container.
