    Summary:
After the birth of her daughter, Charlotte Perkins Gilman sank into a deep depression that lasted several years. She eventually entered a sanitarium to undergo the "rest cure" which forbade any type of physical activity or intellectual stimulation. After a month she returned to her husband and child and suffered a nervous breakdown. In the early 1890s, after leaving her husband, she began a career in writing and lecturing. In 1892 she published the now-famous story "The Yellow Wall-Paper" and a year later a volume of poetry. Over the next thirty-five years she wrote more than a dozen books, and her own magazine. This work collects her most famous pieces. -- adapted from pages [iii-iv] before title page.
