    In the time of the great Greek city-states, the ruler prickles made Athens the greatest of them all. Under his guidance. Athens became a center of democracy, art, architecture, learning, and science - and a military force to e feared. Other city-states, especially Sparta, wanted to end this power and influence. So began the First Peloponnisian War, as Sparta led a war that threatened to bring both Pericles and Periclean Age to an end.
