Humpback whales are among the world's favorite marine mammals. When they become tangled in ropes or other marine debris, they can die of malnutrition or infection, or even become the easy prey of hungry sharks. When entangled whales are spotted and monitored by ocean users, members of the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary and their volunteers race against the clock to slow the animals down and using special knives and other equipment, cut all of the debris away. Through the lense of helmet cameras, the filmmakers put you at the edge of your seat and nearly in the rescue boat alongside the struggling whales.
